Job Description
- Translating a dialogue into two line written captions and making editorial decisions about whether certain lines or words can or should be deleted and/or paraphrased.
- Mastering how to condense a long conversation into a few words that still convey the meaning to the viewer.
- Making sure that the captions are easy to read and use the correct grammar and punctuation.
- Making sure that every caption is carefully positioned and given enough reading time on the screen.
- Comparing the captions to the actual dialogue to check spelling and punctuation.
Qualifications
- A university degree in English language, Arts or Media Studies.
- Minimum one year of proven experience in the subtitling industry.
- Having a special attention to the terminologies and audience.
- Excellent English language skills.
- Total familiarity with subtitling software (Swift or Wincaps).
- Total familiarity with subtitle reading speeds, time codes, line and positioning compliance, safe areas and all restrictions (legal and otherwise) relating to subtitling standard practice.
- Ability to manage time effectively to ensure all deadlines are met.
- Ability to render Arabic - English into transcript translation that can stand alone as a professional artwork of film subtitling/translation.
